Trauma Counselling

Trauma Counselling Northern Rivers, NSW

Traumatic events can be very difficult to deal with. They can leave a mark on us emotionally, mentally, and physically. If you’ve been through a traumatic event, you might feel like you’re not the same person as before. Trauma counselling can help you work through these feelings and start to heal.

Trauma counselling can help you make sense of what happened, work through your feelings and start to heal. It can be hard to talk about what happened, but it is often a very important part of the healing process.

When we experience a traumatic event, our brain is flooded with chemicals and hormones that can cause us to feel fear, anxiety, and stress. This is a normal reaction that helps us to survive in dangerous situations.

But sometimes, these feelings don’t go away after the danger has passed. This can happen if the event was very stressful or if we have been through multiple traumas.

The feeling of being “stuck” can be very frustrating and overwhelming. But there is hope. With counselling, you can start to understand and work through your feelings so that you can start to feel better.

In 2022 i have undergone TRTP through Anne and it has absolutely changed my life and turned my life around. I had so much truma from a divorce and family abuse that has been bottle up for years and felt unworthy and big failure in my life. Thanks to Anne i have succeeded more in life in 2 years then i have all my life. I have overcome my truma’s and have tackled life head on with a clear and peaceful mindset. Im no longer angry or triggered. After 2 years this is my genuine review i feel so much better iv accomplished so much in life in such a short time and happily re-married and enjoying the cream and the cherry on the cake. Words cannot express to those who have truma to undertake the TRTP program through Anne because everyone is valuable, life is valuable and the grass is always greener. Just believe in the process like i have and you will pick the fruit from the tree you have been watering. Thank you Anne so much..

After a referral from a friend who spoke highly of Anne, I made contact for TRTP. I was initially worried that my anxieties would get the better of me and not be able to complete the process. Anne was able to reassure me, talk me through TRTP and I completed the sessions in May 2023. I highly recommend completing TRTP with Anne and the results are instant. The ‘felt experience’ is amazing. I came out of this process a much calmer person who was no longer in flight or fight mode 24/7. I felt safe with Anne throughout this process. A few weeks after TRTP my mother passed away and I have been working with Anne as a Counsellor to manage my grief. Anne has helped me through the stages that come with grief. I am very grateful to Anne for having a safe space to open up for what has been a very challenging time. I highly recommend Anne and TRTP.

I highly recommend Anne. I have been having therapy sessions with Anne continiously for the past 2 years. After 20+ years of trying many others I have never found any to care and help and actually treat certain traumas I have like Anne has and continues to do so. Anne truly is my angel sent from above, without her I do not know where I would be today. Your Awesome 🙏

I went to Anne with multiple Traumas . I was not Hopfull that it can help however my partner booked me in to see Anne .. Anne was very professional and wise. She tried alot to stop me from self sabotaging .. I am still dealing with anxiety day in day out however I feel more aware of my problems and also less aggressive and sensitive to some triggers.. not all my problems are solved as it was just four sessions with Anne! we could just work with couple of the issues... however it did help and I see a change .. I recommend TRTP specially for those battling with PTSD !

I've been seeing Anne Serrey for anger management and for TRTP as part of my court ordered diversion since April. I can comfortably say that slapping the guy that brought me to these counselling sessions was the best thing I've ever done. Absolutely life changing. I feel much lighter, I feel free, and unstuck for the first time since exiting my mother's uterus thirty odd years ago. Thanks so much Anne for all your help and your continued support. Highly recommend Anne's services.

Anne is amazing, TRTP has changed my entire outlook on life, how I interact with people, and what I’m doing. In the few months since TRTP my life has honestly changed so much for the better, it’s beyond what I could have ever imagined. My friends and family are also noticing it! And amazingly, every day gets better. Thank you so much Anne!

What Happens in Trauma Counselling?

In trauma counselling, you will work with a counsellor to explore the thoughts, feelings, and behaviours that are affecting you. You will also learn about how trauma can affect people and what you can do to cope with the symptoms.

Trauma counselling is a safe place for you to talk about your experiences and start to heal. While family and friends can be a great support, they may not always understand what you’re going through. A counsellor will provide you with the time and space to work through your experiences at your own pace.

How Anxiety Counselling Can Help

Trauma counselling can help you in many ways, including:

  • Dealing with your thoughts and feelings: It’s natural for people to avoid thinking about a traumatic event or to try to push away the memories. But this can actually make the symptoms worse. In counselling, you will learn how to deal with your thoughts and feelings in a healthy way.
  • Learning about trauma: Many people don’t understand why they feel the way they do after a traumatic event. Counselling can help you understand how trauma affects people and what you can do to cope with the symptoms.
  • Improving your relationships: The stress of trauma can affect your relationships with family, friends, and co-workers. Counselling can help you improve these relationships and communication skills.
  • Coping with triggers: Triggers are anything that reminds you of a traumatic event. They can be sights, sounds, smells, or even certain words. When you work with a counsellor, you will learn how to identify and cope with triggers in a healthy way.
  • Finding hope: Trauma can make you feel like things will never get better. But counselling can help you see that there is hope for the future. You can start to heal the wounds of trauma and move on with your life.

It’s Time To Take The First Step

Being reluctant to seek out trauma counselling is understandable. It can be difficult to relive the events and open up about what happened. But it is often a very important step in the healing process.

If you’re ready to take the first step, contact Anne Evans today and schedule an online counselling session. Anne is a trauma specialist and psychotherapist who can help you work through your experiences and start to heal.

Take back control of your life and schedule a session today.

Trauma Counselling FAQ’s

Trauma counselling is a safe, supportive process that helps people work through the emotional and psychological effects of distressing or overwhelming experiences. At Northern Rivers Counselling, we focus on helping you feel safe, understood, and supported as you process what has happened and move towards healing.

Counselling can support people who’ve experienced a wide range of traumas – including accidents, natural disasters, abuse, violence, grief, or medical emergencies. Trauma doesn’t always come from a single event; it can also develop from ongoing stress or difficult experiences over time.

Trauma can affect people in many ways, including anxiety, flashbacks, nightmares, hypervigilance, emotional numbness, difficulties with trust, or physical symptoms like fatigue and tension. Trauma counselling helps you understand these responses and develop ways to manage them.

Counselling provides a safe space to talk about your experiences at your own pace. We use evidence-based approaches such as grounding techniques, relaxation strategies, and trauma-informed therapies to help reduce distress and rebuild a sense of safety and control.

Not if you don’t want to. Trauma counselling doesn’t require you to share every detail. The focus is on helping you feel safe and supported while working on the impact trauma has on your present life, rather than forcing you to revisit every memory.

Healing from trauma is different for everyone. Some people may benefit from short-term support, while others prefer ongoing counselling to feel fully supported. Together, we’ll create a plan that respects your pace and your needs.

Yes. Northern Rivers Counselling offers both face-to-face and secure online trauma counselling, so you can access support in the Northern Rivers region or from anywhere in Australia.
